Description
Fruko-Schulz Absinth Magic is a green Czech absinth from Fruko-Schulz, made with wormwood and flavoured with herbs and anise. It is bottled at 60% ABV in a 700ml bottle, so it is a spirit to pour in small measures and lengthen with water.

Fruko-Schulz builds on a business started in 1898, when Moritz Schulz opened a factory for dessert wines and liqueurs in what was then Austria-Hungary. Today the company makes liqueurs, rums, vodkas and a whole family of absinths in the Czech Republic. Absinth Magic is the 60% member of that range, sitting below the 70% bottlings in strength. The label lists spirit, water, sugar, herbal and anise flavouring, plus colouring that gives the green tint. The producer points to the wormwood plant, Artemisia absinthium, behind the product, and that plant is where absinth gets its name and its bitter herbal edge.
Fruko-Schulz suggests serving it chilled, with a sugar cube on an absinthe spoon. A gentler way in is the classic water drip: pour about 30ml into a glass, rest a spoon with a sugar cube across the top and slowly trickle over three to five parts iced water until the drink tastes right to you. It also works as a rinse or a small dash in cocktails such as the Sazerac, or topped with sparkling wine. Keep it to small pours, as 60% is far stronger than most spirits on the shelf. Store the bottle upright, away from sunlight, and it will keep well once opened.
It suits drinkers curious about the Czech style of absinth and home bartenders who want a bottle for classic recipes.
