Description
Gran Juvé & Camps Gran Reserva Cava is the flagship Brut from Juvé & Camps, the family winery in Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, Penedès. First made in 1972, it is a Gran Reserva Cava from the family’s own organic grapes, with a Brut dosage of 5 g/L and 12% ABV.

The blend is 40% Xarel·lo, 25% Macabeu, 25% Chardonnay and 10% Parellada, hand picked from the Espiells and Mediona estates. Grapes are whole-bunch pressed, each variety ferments separately in stainless steel, and all base wines go through malolactic fermentation before the most expressive are chosen. Gran Juvé is only made in strong years and then ages in underground cellars well past the Gran Reserva minimum of 30 months: around 42 months for earlier releases and up to 60 months for recent ones.
Compared with a standard Cava or Prosecco, this has far more toast, honey and creamy depth, and it is a credible alternative to non-vintage Champagne. It suits drinkers who enjoy long-aged sparkling and anyone curious to see how seriously Spain can do bubbles.
Juvé & Camps describes it as:
Nose: white flowers and stone fruit, followed by brioche, toast, spice and honey.
Palate: creamy from the Chardonnay, with fine, plentiful bubbles and a long, elegant finish from the Xarel·lo.
Serve at 6 to 8°C in a white wine glass. It works with Manchego, grilled prawns with garlic, croquetas or seafood paella, and holds up to roast chicken. Drink it now or keep it a few years lying down somewhere cool.
