Description
Luxardo Limoncello is a lemon liqueur from Girolamo Luxardo, the Italian family distillery founded in 1821 and now based in Torreglia, near Padua. It is made from lemons grown in southern Italy and bottled at 27% ABV.

Most limoncello is made by steeping lemon zest alone. Luxardo infuses the peel, the pulp and the juice of the lemons in alcohol, which the family describes as a natural, artisanal method. That gives a fuller, fruitier lemon flavour and a cloudy yellow look. The recipe is the family’s original, which Luxardo says was first advertised in 1905. The house also makes Maraschino cherry liqueur, and the limoncello shares the same focus on a single fruit treated simply.
Luxardo’s own serves are straight up and well chilled, or on the rocks with soda or tonic water as an aperitivo. Keep the bottle in the fridge or freezer so it is always ready to pour into small chilled glasses after dinner. For a long drink, try 50ml over ice topped with tonic and a sprig of basil or mint. It also works splashed over vanilla ice cream, in a lemon sorbet, or brushed onto a sponge cake.
Compared with sweeter supermarket limoncellos, this style shows more bright lemon and juice character, so it suits people who like a fresh, zesty finish to a meal. Serve it with almond biscuits, lemon tart, or simply after a long lunch of pasta and seafood.
