Description
Remy Martin 1738 Accord Royal is a Rémy Martin Cognac blended solely from Grande Champagne and Petite Champagne spirit, which makes it a Fine Champagne Cognac. The 1738 on the label marks a royal accord Louis XV gave the house that year. Strength is 40% ABV.

Under Cognac rules, a Fine Champagne blend must come from those two crus alone, and Grande Champagne has to make up 50% or more. Rémy Martin works only with these two crus. For 1738, the house picks especially oaky eaux-de-vie and matures them in casks of toasted French oak, which is where the rounder, creamier character comes from.
In the range, 1738 sits between the VSOP and the XO. It has more depth and richness than the VSOP, at a friendlier price than the XO, which makes it a good step up for VSOP drinkers or a solid gift for someone who enjoys Cognac.
Rémy Martin’s own tasting notes:
Nose: Jammy plum and fig, then toffee, brioche and toast drawn from the oak.
Palate: Mellow spiced butterscotch with a hint of dark chocolate.
Finish: Very rounded and creamy, with a chalky edge and concentrated nutty aromas.
The house suggests it neat, on ice or in a cocktail, and its Rémy Sidecar is a good place to start: Cognac, orange liqueur and fresh lemon. For sipping, pour it into a tulip glass unchilled, or drop in one large ice cube to take the edge off the alcohol. It also makes a rich Old Fashioned, and at the table try it with a square of dark chocolate, salted almonds, pecan pie or crème brûlée. Kept sealed and upright, an opened bottle stays in good shape for months.
