Description
Four Pillars Negroni Gin is the Spiced Negroni Gin from Four Pillars, the distillery in Healesville in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. Four Pillars made it specifically to go in a Negroni, with extra spice and orange so it holds its own against Campari and sweet vermouth. It is bottled at 43.8% ABV.

The distillers started from the Four Pillars gin recipe and pushed the spice harder. Tasmanian pepperberry leaf and cinnamon go in, along with grains of paradise from West Africa and Indonesian cubeb, plus some fresh ginger in the botanical basket to lift the spice. Fresh Australian oranges bring the citrus. During distillation the team opened up the still plates, which adds weight and intensity to the spirit.
Most gins disappear in a Negroni because the bitter aperitif and vermouth are so loud. This one is built the other way round, so the juniper, pepper and orange still show through after stirring. That makes it a smart bottle for anyone who drinks Negronis at home, and an easy upgrade on using a standard dry gin. Compared with the Four Pillars Rare Dry Gin, expect a spicier, warmer and heavier gin that suits bitter and stirred drinks more than a delicate G&T.
Four Pillars’ own Negroni is 30ml each of Spiced Negroni Gin, Campari and sweet red vermouth, stirred over ice and finished with orange. It also makes a warming gin and tonic with a slice of orange, or a Martinez. Serve it over large ice cubes so the drink chills without watering down too fast.
